Helicopter Spins Wildly into Palm Fronds at Popular Southern California Coast
A helicopter hovering over a crowded southern California coastline unexpectedly started spinning out of control, eventually descending rapidly and smashing into a line of palm trees as onlookers looked on.
Recordings posted on the internet depict the aircraft beginning to twirl above the beach then descending in the direction of the perimeter of the shore, where it gets stuck amidst palm trees and a staircase near the Pacific Coast highway.
Rescue Operation Update
Emergency responders said five individuals were transported to a medical facility involving two who were in the chopper and were “extracted safely from the crash site” after the incident on Saturday.
Three individuals on the pavement were injured. Specifics on their injuries were not immediately available.
The cause of the crash was not yet disclosed.
